Hudson’s Story

Hudson's story begins on New Years Eve of 2011 well 2010 before midnight :) He had the flu. Not a fun way to start a new year at all. A few days after his flu had passed we began to notice that Hudson was incredibly thirsty and was drinking JUGS of milk and juice a day. Finally, at the end of the month, 3 days before his 3rd birthday we decided to take him to the doctor since we thought he was dehydrated from being so sick with the flu. We had not even thought it could be diabetes. It never crossed our mind at all, until the night before Hudson's doctors appointment, his Uncle called us and told us another kid he knows had the same symptoms and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The next day, the confirming call came in that it was what we all thought it was. Hudson was rushed to the hospital 45 minutes away where the doctors were all waiting for him. Hudson's than 3 month old baby sister stayed home with her Grandma while Hudson's daddy and I stayed with him in the hospital for 5 days. We chose to be positive in all of this. In the midst of learning how our new lives would be, we chose to not let this be a negative diagnosis, but rather the beginning of a new journey with our little boy. Hudson is not scared or ashamed at all about what has happened. He loves to show the "ladies" in town or the mall his "scary snake" on his Medic alert bracelet.. and than telling them he has diabetes. He is a very funny, energetic kid who LOVES the movie Cars :) Hudson is our Tiny Light, and we are so thankful for the blessing he is continually being to his family as well as his community.
